THEORY COURSES

We have a wonderful environment for teaching in our open air, but covered, waterfront classroom with extensive views over the Antigua hillsides. We enjoy it, and apparently so do our students!

DAY SKIPPER
May 2016
Joel

“I was lucky to have one-on-one instruction with Pippa and leave feeling like I have learned valuable skills that I will be able to apply in the future. Pippa did a great job breaking down the steps involved when using charts and explained things clearly. It was a great experience”. Did we meet Joel’s expectations? “Yes”

February 2016
Adam

“Ian is a very patient and helpful instructor. Examples were clear and in any cases when I was in doubt of something he helped me to clarify it”. Did we meet Adam’s expectations? “Yes”

February 2016
Alex

“The instructor was superb. Ian made everything easy to comprehend and moved at a pace that we could keep up with”. Did we meet Alex’s expectations? “Yes”

Azat

“Excellent instructor very helpful, great knowledge and ability to share it with students. Very good experience overall”. Did we meet Azat’s expectations? “Yes”

February 2016
Andrew

“Detailed, well paced, last day left a good amount of time for review. More repeat exercises of CTS would be good if longer course. (Principal note: There is always the option of homework Andrew). Instructor very patient which is very helpful”. Did we meet Andrew’s expectations? “Yes”

Peter

August 2016
Jack

“Clear well presented theory course. Easy to understand for someone who is unfamiliar with the syllabus..” Did we meet Jack’s expectations? “Yes”

May 2016
Vidar

“A friendly and relaxed atmosphere combined with a serious approach to instructing the student. This gave a fun and intensive learning experience. Pippa is an outstanding and patient teacher. Thank you very much. I cannot think of changes to this.” Did we meet Vidar’s expectations? “Yes”

January 2016
Michael

“Pippa is wonderful, extremely patient and gifted at presenting challenging materials. I feel the week was very challenging because of the quantity of material being reviewed and tested – maybe too much. I don’t think a new student could pass the assessments without prior study or review – just too extensive. I have a “US Sailing” navigation certificate requiring weeks of home study and still I found the course work difficult.” Did we meet Michael’s expectations? “Yes!”

January 2016
Nick

“A very hard week in the classroom. I feel the course content was delivered patiently and thoroughly by Pippa who was an excellent teacher. Chart work aspect of the course was tough but finally it sunk in. An intense week but very interesting.” Did we meet Nick’s expectations? “Yes”

January 2016
James

“Although we flew through the course content, I feel that it has sunk in and that Pippa took the time wherever necessary to get everyone up to the same standard.” Did we meet James’ expectations? “Tick”

COURSE PACKAGES

Many of our students realise that, if the time is available, a multiple course package is far more economic than visiting Antigua for a single course. Add to that the wealth of training you receive and the additional qualifications, and it makes sense!.

DAY SKIPPER THEORY & PRACTICAL
July 2015
Emma

“I have never been out on a boat and felt so confident, even in F6 winds and 3m waves! The syllabus was taught at a great pace. Pippa was extremely knowledgeable and patient with practical skills and theoretical knowledge. She taught the course at an outstanding level, which I doubt could be replicated at any RYA Sailing School. I can’t wait to go back to Dubai and practice all the skills I have learnt and come back next year for the Coastal Skipper Practical course! Thank you very much for enriching my knowledge exponentially and giving me such confidence in one of my greatest passions. I will always have fond memories of our time on the water together this summer”

June 2015
Jason

“Overall a great experience. The fact that I was able to do the courses I wanted in the time frame I wanted was ideal. Ian is a good instructor! I also appreciate the fact that Brian got back to me so quickly. That was the reason in the end that made my choice to come to Miramar”

Alistair

“Hi Brian and Pippa

I have returned safely to the UK and packed away my shorts and flip flops for another year!

I just wanted to thank you both for making the whole experience of starting to learn to sail – and I anticipate this will be a long but rewarding journey – so enjoyable.

To go from being a complete novice to undertaking a 230 nm sail to Nevis, St Kitts and Statia in 6 weeks gave me a real sense of achievement.

Again heart felt thanks for your help and hospitality. I will write reviews for Trip Advisor and Facebook, and ask Maria who is a member to post them.

Alistair”
