Course ‘n’ Cruise – 4 Weeks

4 Weeks of Combined Training and Cruising from RYA Competent Crew to RYA Day Skipper

With Shore Based Theory Training – Recommended Pre-Course experience may be required.

Arrival Day – Welcome evening (Barbeque at Miramar Sailing School, or Crew Dinner Ashore). Stay on board the yacht.

Week 1 – Competent Crew – (5 days) Learn the ropes and be a useful crewmember on board a cruising yacht. Attain RYA Competent Crew. Catered accommodation on board yacht.

At the weekend – (2 days) take time to relax and ‘lime’ – maybe a bit of hiking in the Rain Forest, or just hang out at one of the many Beach Bar/ Restaurants that offer great Antiguan hospitality. Self-Catered Accommodation in Jolly Harbour Marina Village. The Jolly Harbour complex offers a varied selection of restaurants for dining out, as well as a supermarket and other shops to provide all you might need in your shore based accommodation.

Weeks 2 & 3 – Day Skipper –Discover the art of Navigation at Sea for the Day Skipper Theory certificate – (4 days).
Instruction ashore in our open-air, waterfront classroom at Miramar Sailing School. Self-Catered Accommodation in Jolly Harbour Marina Village. The Jolly Harbour complex offers a varied selection of restaurants for dining out, as well as a supermarket and other shops to provide all you might need in your shore based accommodation.
(5 days) Further training on board the yacht for the Day Skipper Practical certificate – putting in to practice the Navigation Training you have learned in the classroom. At the end of these 5 days there will be a short assessment to ensure that you have covered the syllabus successfully to achieve the qualification.

The RYA Day Skipper Certificate entitles the holder to apply for an International Certificate of Competence. This gives you a qualification that is accepted by most of the Yacht Charter companies around the World to enable you to Skipper a boat by day unaccompanied.

At the weekend – (2 days) – Accommodation at the National Sailing Academy in Falmouth Harbour – options to use the watersport facilities (Dinghies, Kayaks, SUP boards, and Diving available) or, if you don’t fancy more time on the water, just to explore a different region of Antigua – this is self-catered, but with the excellent Academy Café on the premises.

Week 4 – Cruising – (7 days) Cruise around Antigua & Barbuda, or even to one of the neighbouring islands such as Guadeloupe, or St Kitts & Nevis. Find out more about these Caribbean Islands. Relax and enjoy the delights of Caribbean Cruising – anchor in a secluded bay, swim in the crystal clear ocean off the yacht, explore new places ashore, experience the different cultures – the opportunities are endless! Catered accommodation on board yacht included.

Minimum 2 people – possible yacht share.
Maximum 4 people – private and exclusive yacht occupancy.

3 week option available by request
