Travel to Antigua
Antigua has one international airport, VC Bird. When arriving in Antigua, it is worth noting that passport control can get very busy so ensuring you have filled out all your documentation should help speed up the process. Note that the form you are given on arrival you will need for your return so hang on to it!
It is usually a good idea to commission a porter for around a EC$25 (US$10) tip. This tends to speed up your passage through customs!
There are regular flights from the UK, US, Canada, Italy and Germany. Note that Antigua is -4 GMT with no daylight saving adjustments.

Travel around Antigua
On arrival in Antigua, there are several options for getting around the island. Bearing in mind that Antigua only measures 14 miles by 11 miles it never takes too long to get to your destination. If hiring a car you will require a valid driving licence and picture ID, a temporary driving licence is valid for 3 months and costs US$25 . Several rental companies operate and you can choose from a saloon car to a 4x4. The roads in Antigua range from OK to a more off road experience. There are not many road signs, so navigation can be tricky. Local maps show where the petrol stations are across the island, this is a good way to note where you are as these don’t move! Antiguans drive either very slowly or very fast, overtaking on blind corners and other dangerous manoeuvres are common place. When overtaking, using the horn is a way to pre-warn someone of your manoeuvre. People don’t tend to indicate when taking a turn or stopping, so being watchful of what is going on ahead is a good idea. Saying all that driving in Antigua is safe you just need to be aware of the road and take it steady.
An alternative is to take a taxi around the island. Taxi’s charge a fixed government set rate, but it is worth asking before you get in the total cost and currency, whether it is for a one way or return trip, and if the currency is US$ or Eastern Caribbean dollars so you know what to expect.
Push Bikes can be hired from Bike Plus in St John’s. So for the fit and adventurous they make for an exciting way to explore the island. Quad bikes are also for hire, but you will require a driving licence to rent.
