There are several ways of spending your holiday in Antigua but the one with that “little bit of difference” is a sailing tour of the island aboard Miramar.
There is no way you will see the entire coastline of Antigua from a car or a bus. From the sea you can see it all. A car would not allow you to ghost in to the secluded bays of an offshore island and spend the evening in awe of the millions of stars that are so visible from the Caribbean Sea. Romantic in the extreme!
You would not however, pass up the opportunity to experience some of the attractions the island has to offer its visitors.
The Miramar Sailing 'AROUND ANTIGUA' holiday combines terrific sailing with peace, tranquillity, relaxation, great scenery, historical sites, shopping and water activities. When it’s all over it will be a holiday experience neither of you will ever forget.
The 'AROUND ANTIGUA' Holiday Schedule is subject to flight arrivals but generally as follows:
Saturday - Day 1: Clear the airport and be collected by taxi that will bring you to Miramar to settle in. There is no sailing on this day as you will need a little time to acclimatize and relax after your flight. Your welcome supper will be at “Al Porto” in Jolly Harbour with the compliments of Miramar Sailing. You will then spend your first night on board the yacht at anchor off North Beach, Jolly Harbour.
Sunday -Day 2: After breakfast we weigh anchor and head south to the seclusion of Carlisle Bay on the south west corner of Antigua. Here we will take lunch with plenty of opportunity for snorkelling in the superb, calm, clear waters this bay is renowned for. Around mid afternoon, we weigh anchor again and make sail for English Harbour and Nelson’s Dockyard to arrive in time to drop anchor and head up to the world famous party at Shirley Heights for supper and as much dancing as you can cope with. Once down from the “Heights” we return to the yacht for the night.
Monday - Day 3: This is your exploration day ashore. After breakfast on board you are free to explore, to your heart’s content, the history of Nelson’s Dockyard, including the museum and a walk to Fort Berkley, and the yachts and culture of Falmouth Harbour. You may cram as little or as much into your day as you choose. You could take a taxi into the Rain Forest and experience the Zip Line Canopy Tour or enjoy a relaxing afternoon on the beach at Half Moon Bay or Freemans Bay, or simply chill on Pigeon Beach in Falmouth. A “must do” is a visit to the Galley Bar in the Dockyard for you to add your names to the ceiling of the bar alongside those of the many previous visitors to our island. In the evening we suggest supper ashore at Cloggy’s at Antigua Yacht Club, another “must do” for any visitor to the area before returning to the yacht for the night.
Tuesday - Day 4: After breakfast we head off on a more challenging sail around to Green Island, one of the most beautiful anchorages Antigua has to offer. Peace and tranquillity abound. The small beach is sandy and shaded and the island is big enough for you to trek to explore a little bit of paradise. Snorkelling off Green Island is not to be missed as the area is dotted with coral heads in very calm water. The rest of the day and night are spent at Green Island. You will both love it!
Wednesday – Day 5: If you are up for it, this is the “big one” as sailing starts early when we head north and around the north east coast of Antigua on the windward Atlantic coast. If you do not feel up to it, we can always make a new plan! Our sail will last for several hours as we aim for Prickly Pear Island on the inside of the north coast’s coral reef. This is yet another opportunity for a sandy beach island and some safe shallow water snorkelling. In the evening we head for the tranquil anchorage of Deep Bay for supper and a relaxing night on board.
Thursday – Day 6: We sail you round to St. John’s, Antigua’s capital, for another day ashore. Here you will get a real feel for the life style and culture of our island and its people, not to mention the plentiful shopping in Heritage Quay’s duty free zone. This is an opportunity for you to purchase that little piece of “special memory” jewellery for your partner. Rather than spend the night among the noise and lights of the capital we end the day after supper with a short sail back to Deep Bay for the evening.
Friday – Day 7: Breakfast and lunch in Deep Bay with a chance to climb to Fort Barrington or snorkel over the famous “Andes” tar ship wreck before we set off on a relaxing down wind sail back to Jolly Harbour while the sun sets, and then to our dock before having a final evening meal together ashore.
Saturday – Day 8: Sadly, you will be preparing yourselves for leaving Miramar and your journey home.
