Caribbean Race Charter Campaign calendar of sailing regattas, races and events for 2013 and 2014
Ocean 60 Challenge
This is a brand new event and the latest Miramar Sailing innovation offering a unique sailing experience.
It brings together two Volvo Ocean 60 trans Atlantic Racing Yachts in a 7 day package of adventure sailing, race training, and hospitality events that culminates in 2 days of Offshore Match Racing.
Venues are Antigua, Grenada and Sint Maarten. These offer a wonderful choice of Caribbean destinations and cultures. There are 6 events planned for 2014/15.
This package is ideally suited for Corporate Team Building, Racing Club Teams, Sailing Clubs, or just groups of enthusiastic sailing buddies looking for something a little bit out of the ordinary!
Ideally, groups will consist of a minimum of 20 and a maximum of 32. The group number needs to be even to ensure each yacht is similarly crewed.
Our 7 day Package includes:
Day 1
Arrival at Airport
Transfer Airport to Challenge HQ to meet the skippers and familiarize with the yachts.
Welcome Sunset BBQ on the beach.
2 days of Cruising
Day 2Depart Challenge HQ for a day of cruising, training and yacht familiarisation, with an opportunity to sample some of the local onshore activities along the way. Approximately 30 nm.
Day 3
A further day of cruising, training and local activities in a different part of the island:. Approximately 45nm.
2 days of Training
Day 4Training: Sailing in both Caribbean Sea and Atlantic conditions practicing sail handling, maneuvers and tactics.
Return to Challenge HQ for rest & relaxation.
Day 5
More Training practicing tactics and using offshore islands and reefs for rounding’s practice.
Return to Challenge HQ for pre Match Racing crew supper, with possibly a celebrity guest/speaker.
2 days of Match Racing
Day 6 Volvo Ocean 60 Match Race 1: “Around The Island”. Your 4 days of cruising and training, will have prepared you for this long distance race around the island with lots of tacking and gybing, and upwind and downwind sailing.Return to Challenge HQ for evening de-brief supper.
Day 7
Volvo Ocean 60 Match Race 2 & 3:
Morning: Course 1 Around marks and offshore islands. Approximately 30nm.
Afternoon: Course 2 Around marks and offshore islands. Approximately 30 nm.
The ultimate test of everything you’ve learned!
Return to Challenge HQ for evening prize giving party and farewell supper.
Day 8
Farewells and transfer to the airport.
